Marshalls opens 26,000-square-foot bargain store outside Sacramento

Marshalls has officially opened a new 26,000-square-foot store outside Sacramento, giving California shoppers thousands of brand-name bargains under one roof.

The off-price chain held a grand opening on Thursday at The Ridge shopping center, roughly 14 miles from Sacramento, The Sun reported.

Store materials identify the location as Marshalls Elk Grove, CA. The new site adds another outlet in a metro area where the retailer already runs several stores.

Shoppers walking in will find the same pitch Marshalls uses nationwide: designer labels and home goods at prices meant to undercut full-price department stores.

Brand names, lower tickets, constant turnover

Marshalls describes the Elk Grove floor as a deep mix of fashion, home, beauty, and travel gear.

A store statement said:

"At Marshalls Elk Grove, CA you’ll discover an amazing selection of high-quality, brand name and designer merchandise at prices that thrill across fashion, home, beauty and more,"

Another company line pressed the clothing and accessories angle hard.

Marshalls told shoppers:

"You can expect to find designer women’s & men’s clothes that match your style as well as the perfect finishing touches for every outfit, shoes, handbags, beauty, accessories & more."

Home décor and luggage get the same treatment. The chain says new styles arrive often, so each trip can look different from the last.

That treasure-hunt model is the point of off-price retail. Customers hunt brand names without paying mall prices, and the inventory keeps moving.

Family ties run through TJX

Marshalls is the sister brand to TJ Maxx. Parent company TJX Companies bought Marshalls in 1995, years after the chain’s 1956 founding.

The banner now counts more than 1,000 U.S. stores. Sacramento-area shoppers already had multiple Marshalls options before this Ridge center opening.

Expansion has not been limited to California. Marshalls moved into a former Tractor Supply site in Nacogdoches as part of the same push into empty retail boxes.

Sister chain TJ Maxx has kept a similar pace. Even when a handful of doors close, net openings have continued to climb across the TJX portfolio.

Readers tracking those shifts can see the pattern in coverage of TJ Maxx store openings and selective closures planned into 2026.

The broader discount sector is not retreating either. Chains that sell for less have kept adding locations while legacy malls struggle.

That trend shows up clearly in reporting on how discount retailers are expanding by the hundreds and shrugging off years of “retail apocalypse” talk.

What the new floor promises shoppers

Marshalls framed the home and travel aisles as another reason to stop in.

The company said:

"Refresh your home with our selection of on-trend home decor and travel in style with high quality luggage, suitcases and travel essentials, all at incredible prices,"

A further pitch stressed discovery: new styles keep arriving, and each visit is a chance to find brands that “wow” at prices that “thrill.”

No opening-day sales figures, hiring totals, or exact street address appeared in the available reporting. The calendar date beyond “Thursday” was not pinned down either.

Still, the basics are plain. A 26,000-square-foot Marshalls is now open at The Ridge near Sacramento, selling the same mix of clothes, décor, beauty, and luggage the chain stocks elsewhere.

Other recent Marshalls announcements, including plans to open at a former Tractor Supply location, fit the same growth story.

Shoppers who care about return fees and fine print already know big chains are shifting costs. Some major retailers now charge for mail-in returns, a reminder to read the policy before the haul gets large, a point covered in earlier reporting on mail-in return fees reaching $12.

For families watching every dollar, another off-price floor outside Sacramento is simple good news: more brand-name goods on the shelf, and more competition on price.

When retailers fight for the customer’s wallet instead of lecturing empty stores, shoppers win.
