Stewart’s Shops is recalling half-gallon cartons of two ice cream flavors after a customer found metal inside, and shoppers in three states are being told not to eat them.
WRGB reported that Stewart’s Shops Corp., based in Saratoga Springs, New York, is recalling half gallons of Heavenly Medley and Vanilla-Chocolate-Strawberry ice cream over the potential presence of metal.
The move followed a consumer discovery of a metal object in a half-gallon carton. The company is advising customers not to eat the product and to bring it back for a full refund.
No injuries or illnesses were reported in the available details. The recall is being handled with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The recalled ice cream was sold at all Stewart’s Shops locations in New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
The sale window runs from July 17, 2026, through October 2, 2026. Heavenly Medley half gallons carry a best-by date of Feb. 10, 2027. Vanilla-Chocolate-Strawberry half gallons carry a best-by date of Feb. 11, 2027.
Shoppers who still have those cartons at home are being told to return them to any Stewart’s location for a full refund rather than risk eating them.
Public details so far do not name the store where the metal object was found, which flavor held it, or what the object looked like. The company has not released unit counts, lot codes, or a formal FDA recall class in the material reported.
How the metal got into the product is also unstated. What is clear is the company’s stated course: pull the two half-gallon flavors, warn customers, and take returns.
For a regional chain built in part on ice cream sales across the Capital Region and neighboring states, a metal-in-product scare is the kind of failure customers notice immediately. Quick refunds and plain warnings are the minimum standard when something that should never be in a freezer carton shows up anyway.
When a customer finds metal in ice cream, the right response is simple: pull the product, tell people straight, and make them whole at the counter.
