Ferrara says Pixy Stix still available after shoppers feared 1953 candy vanished

Candy maker Ferrara says the nostalgic 1953 powder treat Pixy Stix was never discontinued, despite years of shopper panic and Reddit claims production had stopped for good.

The U.S. Sun reports Ferrara pushed back on the long-running scare in an emailed statement, telling the outlet the brand remains on the market for customers who still want that classic sugar hit.

The company put it plainly: Pixy Stix has not been pulled, and shoppers can still buy it.

"Pixy Stix has not been discontinued and continues to be available to consumers to enjoy,"

Ferrara said in the statement shared with the outlet. It added that the brand is sold nationwide through major online retailers and pointed buyers to its product locator to find stock nearby.

"The brand is available to purchase nationwide through major online retailers. Consumers can search our product locator here to find Pixy Stix products near them."

Reddit users sounded the alarm in 2023

The fear did not come out of nowhere. Reports as far back as 2023 claimed Ferrara had quietly ended the line.

In November 2023, an unnamed Reddit user said the candy had grown hard to find and described calling the company for answers. The post claimed production was no longer moving.

"I called Ferraro USA to find out where else I could buy these delightful candies, and it turns out that the company has indefinitely put their production on hold,"

the user wrote, using a spelling of the company name that does not match Ferrara’s own branding. That claim sat online as shoppers traded frustration about empty shelves and missing tubes of colored sugar.

Ferrara’s later reply to The U.S. Sun directly contradicts the idea that the brand was killed off. The company’s U.S. site still lists Pixy Stix, including flavors and nutrition facts, which undercuts the “gone for good” story that spread among fans.

A 1953 candy still chasing Halloween shoppers

Pixy Stix has been in production since 1953. For many families it is a cheap, messy Halloween staple, paper straws full of tart powder that kids dump straight on the tongue.

When a product that old suddenly seems scarce, people notice. Limited stock at stores can look like a quiet kill order, especially when online posts fill the silence with worst-case claims.

Ferrara’s position is that the product never left. It says nationwide online retail still carries the brand and that a company locator can point customers to nearby options. That is a clearer signal than rumor threads from two years ago.

Shoppers who gave up after the 2023 scare now have the manufacturer on record. The candy maker says the tubes are still out there. The panic said otherwise. The statement draws a hard line between the two.

Nostalgia sells, and so does scarcity panic. When a 70-year-old candy vanishes from one aisle, the internet often buries it before the company gets a word in, which is why a plain denial still matters.
