Costco has teased a limited-time food court comeback, and shoppers are pointing to churros even though the warehouse chain has not confirmed their guess.
In a Sept. 16 Instagram video, Costco showed its food court menu and hinted that a familiar item would return for a limited time, the Daily Mail reported. The year of the post was not identified.
Online commenters quickly settled on churros as the leading theory. But Costco has not officially confirmed the item, leaving members without a return date, list of participating warehouses or firm answer.
The video showed members of Costco’s social-media team looking at the menu. One said, “I think it's going to look great right there,” while another said they “can't believe we're bringing back” the item.
The clip ended with the words “To be continued.” That was enough to send shoppers searching Costco’s menu history for clues.
Reddit user TrippingOnGinger said he would ask his girlfriend, whom he described as a Costco food court supervisor. He later returned with a direct claim: “It is, in fact, churros!” The comment drew more than 1,400 upvotes.
Another user, bendable_girder, simply wrote, “Churros.” That answer received more than 4,000 upvotes, showing how strongly the discussion had moved toward one menu item.
A separate Costco employee said a manager had mentioned a churro return during a meeting. Those accounts remain employee and customer claims, not an announcement from the company.
Members who follow Costco policy changes have reason to watch the food court closely. The chain has removed, replaced and restored popular offerings before.
Costco removed its traditional churro during the COVID-19 pandemic while simplifying the food court menu. The company later brought the treat back in a twisted form.
That twisted churro return did not last. Beginning in early 2024, Costco removed it again from many U.S. warehouses and replaced it with a large Double Chocolate Chunk Cookie.
The food court has long held a special place in Costco’s value pitch. Its hot-dog-and-soda combination still costs $1.50, a price that has remained unchanged since the mid-1980s.
Costco’s own historical records date its first hot-dog cart to 1985. The company introduced its 18-inch pizza in 1989 at $9.95, according to those records.
Those low prices give even small menu changes unusual weight with members. The food court offers simple, familiar choices at prices families can understand without reading fine print.
Readers tracking Costco beyond the food court can also follow its nationwide delivery moves. But few changes stir the same immediate response as the return of an inexpensive favorite.
Other guesses surfaced in the online discussion, including Combo Pizza and bulgogi bake, an item offered at some Costco locations overseas. A moderator of the original Reddit post said there were “unfortunately no plans” to restore Combo Pizza in the United States at that time.
That leaves churros as the leading guess, but still only a guess. Costco has not identified which warehouses would carry the returning item or whether any comeback would reach all U.S. locations.
The company also has not provided a date for its promised follow-up. “To be continued” may keep social-media users talking, but paying members deserve clear information once the promotion becomes an actual menu change.
