Walmart has opened a fully remodeled supercenter in Roseville, California, complete with a sushi bar and other upgrades, part of plans to refresh more than 650 stores.

Shoppers celebrated the transformed store at the start of the month after the retailer replaced its old location with a new-format supercenter. The Sun reported the overhaul brought expanded aisles, a sushi counter, an upgraded automotive center with new waiting areas, a vision center, broader pickup and delivery options, and a Grab & Go section.

Roseville store manager Vitaliy Stepanov framed the project as a convenience play for local customers.

"Our team is proud to bring these new updates to customers here in Roseville."

He added that the upgrades cover every way people use the store.

"Whether customers are shopping in-store, picking up an order or stopping by for one of our services, these improvements are all about making their experience easier and more convenient."

Stepanov also said the store is ready for visitors to see the changes first-hand.

"We’re excited for the community to come in and see what’s new."

Online skeptics get an on-site reply

Walmart sushi has drawn online jokes. One Facebook commenter pushed back hard on the idea that the rolls sit around for days.

"For all yall bashing this, I GET IT!!! BUT!!!! This is not delivered there and setting on the shelves for DAYS....it’s made on site at a sushi station. “It’s actually VERY good and a lot of the newer Wal-Marts being built will have these stations automatically!!"

That defense lines up with the Roseville counter and with another location already running the concept. A Walmart supercenter in Jacksonville, Florida, also features a fresh sushi bar. Corporate offices there called the setup a “next-generation experience.”

The Roseville remodel is not a one-off. Walmart plans to remodel more than 650 stores to fit the new style, which pairs wider shopping space with services customers can use in a single stop.

Everyday shoppers get more options when retailers compete on convenience and quality. Fresh counters, faster pickup, and cleaner service areas are what free markets deliver when stores chase real demand instead of lectures.
