Costco rolls back Kirkland peppermint bark price after shoppers rejected last year’s jump

Costco cut its Kirkland Signature peppermint bark to $12.99 at some warehouses after shoppers rejected last year’s $16.99 price, and the seasonal favorite is already back early.

Fox News Digital reports the warehouse club’s popular holiday chocolate is appearing on shelves sooner than usual this season, with some locations ringing it up at $12.99 for the 21-ounce container.

That is a clear drop from the $16.99 price shoppers faced last holiday season. In 2023 the same container went for $9.99. At the new $12.99 mark, the treat works out to less than $1.75 per serving.

Costco did not issue a public explanation. Fox News Digital reached out for comment and received none in the reporting.

Shoppers made the $16.99 tag a hard sell

Members did not stay quiet about last year’s price. One Reddit user put it plainly:

"good, but not for $16.99"

Others still defended the product itself. Another Reddit commenter called the bakery version “absolutely fire” and said it beat Ghirardelli’s individually wrapped peppermint bark.

Instagram Costco-find accounts lit up as soon as the bark reappeared. @costcobayareafinds posted “Peppermint bark!!” with heart-eye emojis. @momcartfinds wrote, “Omg yess the peppermint bark.”

The early return lands while fall bakery items are still on the floor, pumpkin bar cake, a 4-pound pumpkin pie, pumpkin cheesecake, and caramel apple strudel bites. Costco is also stocking other holiday-ready treats and gifts and has restocked Kirkland Signature organic Madagascar vanilla beans: 20 whole pods for $9.69, or roughly 48 cents per bean.

$12.99 undercuts specialty shop alternatives

For shoppers comparing options, the warehouse price still looks sharp. A Williams-Sonoma peppermint bark runs about $35. Costco’s version undercuts that by a wide margin even after the multi-year swings from $9.99 to $16.99 and back down.

The $12.99 figure is reported at some locations, not confirmed as a nationwide shelf price. Exact store lists and any remaining higher tags were not detailed in the coverage. No official Costco statement has clarified whether the cut is permanent or limited.

What is clear is the sequence: a sharp jump last season, open complaints from regular buyers, and an earlier-than-usual restock at a lower number this year. Members noticed both the timing and the register total.

Warehouse clubs live on volume and repeat visits. When a seasonal favorite jumps nearly $7 in two years and customers say the quality does not match the new tag, the quiet correction shows up on the pallet. Shoppers who pushed back on the $16.99 price just got a clearer signal that their complaints registered.
