McDonald's has brought Monopoly back to restaurants nationwide with classic peel-off pieces, app-only gameplay, and prizes that include $1 million cash and a new Jeep.
The promotion started Tuesday, Oct. 6, at McDonald's locations across the country, USA TODAY reported, after the chain revived the long-running game last year following a decade-long absence.
This year's version keeps the familiar stickers on packaging but moves all of the play into the McDonald's App. Fans peel the pieces by hand, then scan them digitally to chase instant wins and collect-to-win sets.
McDonald's framed the reboot as a return to basics.
"This year, we're going all in on the classic peel, what first made MONOPOLY at McDonald's so iconic,"
the company said in a news release. It also described a "simplified experience and one-of-a-kind prize list."
"With all the pieces in your hands, fans will now have just one way to peel, with all gameplay done in the app."
To join, customers create or open a MyMcDonald's Rewards account in the app before they order. Eligible menu items arrive with game pieces on the packaging. Players peel the stickers and scan them in the app to reveal instant prizes or property pieces for collect-to-win sets.
Eligible items include a large soft drink, iced coffee, iced tea, or specialty McCafé beverage; a large hot McCafé drink; large French fries; a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets; and a 4-piece McCrispy Strips.
Orders can go through the app, a kiosk, the counter, or the drive-thru. The chain says registration before ordering is required for the full bonus path.
Through Nov. 1, registered players can unlock bonus Chance Card gameplay for each eligible item bought in the app or by showing a Rewards code at the kiosk, counter, or drive-thru.
Those Chance Cards can deliver cash awards from $10,000 up to $1 million, $50,000 toward a home down payment, or $50,000 toward college debt.
The overall promotion's full end date was not listed beyond that Nov. 1 bonus window.
Instant-win awards include MyMcDonald's Rewards points ranging from 1,500 to 7,000, plus gift cards tied to partners such as Grubhub, Ulta Beauty, and Uber Eats.
Bigger collect-to-win and top-tier prizes include $1 million in cash, a 2027 Jeep Cherokee, a choice of one of three Polaris vehicles, a Carnival Cruise getaway, a trip connected to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, and what the chain presents as free McDonald's for a year through a $1,040 McDonald's gift card.
Exact odds, the full property combinations, and the complete prize counts were not laid out in the available company summary.
Monopoly at McDonald's was a seasonal fixture for years before it disappeared for roughly a decade. Its return last year, and again this fall, shows the company still sees value in a simple peel-and-win hook tied to everyday orders.
The pitch is straightforward: buy the marked items, peel the stickers, scan them, and take a shot at cash, cars, travel, or free food. No new government program. No complicated rebate maze. Just a fast-food chain putting prizes on the bag and letting customers play.
Shoppers who want a crack at the board know the drill, order the large fries, peel the piece, and let the app keep score.
