Nordstrom opens limited gourmet pantry at New York City store

Nordstrom has turned a corner of its New York City store into a temporary gourmet market stocked by more than 50 brands, and the pop-up only runs through October 10.

The retailer converted “The Corner” into “The Corner Market,” a curated pantry selling snacks, candy, pantry staples, sips, and hosting supplies at its Big Apple location. The assortment mixes local and global goods billed as affordable luxury for gift-givers and everyday shoppers.

The U.S. Sun reported the market arrived Monday and will remain open until October 10, based on a Nordstrom press release. Personalized gift boxes start at $20.

Nordstrom promoted the stop on Instagram with a straightforward pitch to hungry browsers.

"Stop in for delicious gifts, luxe provisions, candy, snacks, sips and more to satisfy every appetite."

Shoppers already chimed in. One called the display “especially inviting.” Another wrote, “Absolutely gorgeous! Can’t wait to shop!”

More than 50 brands stock the short-run shelves

The Corner Market pulls from names that cover candy, jams, salt, cocktail fixings, homeware, and private-label goods. Featured labels include Fishs Eddy, Fishwife, Rifle Paper, Monte’s Fine Foods, Sweden-based BonBon, New York-based Jamagansett, Oregon-based Jacobsen Salt Co., Miami-based Filthy Food, Fredericks & Mae, Addison Ross London, Maegen, and Nordstrom Made.

That mix is the point. Department stores still win when they put real product in front of real people instead of burying everything behind a search bar. Even as major chains reshaped American malls, shoppers keep showing up for stores that curate well and make browsing feel worthwhile.

Gift boxes and entertaining gear sit beside the food, so the space doubles as a last-minute host station and a present shop. The price floor on custom assortments keeps the entry point clear: $20 and up.

Fashion takeovers came first at The Corner

Nordstrom introduced “The Corner” in 2024 as a dedicated bay for pop-ups and brand takeovers inside the New York City store. The first run launched in March 2024 with luxury apparel label Bode, billed then as an immersive retail setup with ready-to-wear, antique-textile pieces, and hand-illustrated work.

Since that debut, the same space has rotated limited collaborations with Nike, Skims, New Balance, Ugg, Adidas, and others. Food is the latest turn, not a permanent grocery aisle. The market is a timed pantry, not a full supermarket rebuild.

That pop-up habit matters in a retail year full of hard choices. Nordstrom has closed other anchor locations and cut jobs when traffic and costs no longer add up. A short gourmet run in Manhattan is the other side of the ledger: test demand, move product, and keep the floor interesting without locking the company into a permanent food format.

Sister brand moves tell a similar story of selective bets. Nordstrom Rack has pushed new physical stores in markets where the math still works, while other sites go dark. One recent example: the Waikiki Rack shutdown after a decade. Luxury peers face the same pressure, including Neiman Marcus plans to close its historic Dallas flagship.

Against that backdrop, a gourmet corner with a hard end date is a controlled experiment. Stock the shelves, watch what sells, pack it up on October 10, and move on.

October 10 is the hard stop

No street address beyond the New York City Nordstrom location appears in the available reporting, and the arrival date is given only as Monday. What is firm is the exit: the market stays open until October 10.

For shoppers who want the candy, salt, mixers, jams, and gift boxes, the calendar is the constraint. After that date, The Corner can flip back to the next brand takeover.

Private retailers still do this best when they answer to customers, not to a planning board. Put good goods on a table, name the end date, and let people vote with their wallets before the shelves go bare.
