Tutta Bella will close its Seattle flagship and downtown restaurant on October 2 after weighing its options, leaving fans mourning a neighborhood staple.
The Sun reported that the Neapolitan pizza chain is permanently shutting its Columbia City flagship and its downtown Seattle restaurant, including the Lobby Bar, on October 2.
The company also recently closed Tutta Bella kiosk restaurants inside QFC stores in University Village and Kirkland Urban. Three other sites, Bellevue, Issaquah, and Wallingford, will stay open.
Tutta Bella broke the news in an Instagram post to guests and neighbors. The message was direct.
In the caption, the company said:
"To our guests, neighbors, and friends, today we are sharing the news that Tutta Bella’s Columbia City and Downtown Seattle restaurants, including Lobby Bar, will close on October 2nd,"
It added that the QFC kiosks had already closed. On the decision itself, the chain offered little detail beyond process.
Tutta Bella stated:
"We considered many options before deciding it was time to say goodbye to them,"
The company thanked supporters and put employees first in its public note.
"We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported both locations, most of all our employees, who have taken care of our guests, and of each other."
The Columbia City restaurant was the flagship. Founder Joe Fugere returned to his hometown in 2004 aiming to bring true Neapolitan pizza, and the warmth of Naples, to Seattle.
That location became a neighborhood fixture. Regulars made that plain in comments under the announcement.
One customer wrote, "So sad to hear!! Such a staple in the neighborhood and a favorite spot." Another said, "Tutta Bella is such a blessing to the Seattle community and food scene." A third recalled going "all the time back when it opened" and called the Columbia City exit sad. A fourth asked what diners "down here in the South" would do next.
Tutta Bella told customers the Bellevue, Issaquah, and Wallingford restaurants "remain open and with a table ready and waiting." Pizzas, salads, and pasta entrees will still be sold at local grocery and club stores in the Seattle area and at Lumen Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks.
Tutta Bella did not publish a specific financial reason for the cuts. The closures land amid a wider run of restaurant pullbacks.
Domino’s recently shuttered 13 restaurants in a single state and, according to the same reporting, fired staff by text. Earlier this spring, another chain that had operated for 50 years abruptly shut down all of its locations after bankruptcy.
Beloved local brands are not immune when the math stops working. Customers lose a familiar table. Workers lose shifts. Cities lose another place that made a block feel finished.
Tutta Bella asked diners to visit the closing spots before October 2. After that, the flagship that helped define the brand in Seattle will be gone, while a smaller footprint tries to carry what remains.
When even neighborhood institutions start turning out the lights, it is a reminder that good food and loyal regulars still have to clear a hard economic bar.
