Costco is returning its Twisted Churro to U.S. food courts for a limited run, but customers remain divided over the version and price.
The U.S. Sun reported that Costco announced the comeback through Instagram. Its caption said, “Churro is BACK in US food courts for a limited time.”
The retailer plans to roll out the dessert in phases across more than 650 U.S. warehouses. Launch dates will vary by location, and Costco has not said when the limited run will end.
Fox News also reported the limited-time return. The chain’s low-priced food court has a dedicated following, and shoppers often campaign for discontinued items to come back.
The Twisted Churro appeared on Costco menus from 2021 through 2024 before the Chocolate Chip Cookie replaced it. An older, straighter churro had been sold before the pandemic.
A clip included with Costco’s announcement showed an employee changing a menu board to list the returning churro at $1.49. The U.S. Sun described that as a 49-cent increase.
The price comparison depends on which era shoppers use. The New York Post compared $1.49 with the original churro’s $1 price, while Fox News said $1.49 matches the twisted version’s price before its 2024 removal.
That difference matters to customers who wanted the original straight churro rather than the later twisted recipe. Some shoppers described the twisted version as more bready and less crunchy than its predecessor.
Costco’s announcement drew plenty of approval. The Instagram post collected more than 350,000 likes and over 12,400 reposts, while one longtime customer commented, “Miracles do happen.”
Other members questioned both the choice and the limited window. One wrote, “Why would this be limited time? The churro is so much better than the cookie...I used to buy a churro almost every time, and I tried the cookie once and I was like this is not worth the price.”
Another response put the disagreement more simply: “We said churro, not twisted churro.” A separate customer asked Costco to bring back “the original churro not the twist.”
For now, shoppers must check their local warehouse because Costco has not published one nationwide launch date. The company said exact dates will vary “over the coming weeks.”
Customer loyalty is earned one purchase at a time. When a company revives a favorite, the version and the value still count.
