Meta’s Muse climbed to No. 1 among free apps in Apple’s U.S. App Store after an earlier launch delay for added security work.
FOX Business reported that Muse debuted in early September and moved ahead of OpenAI’s ChatGPT on the U.S. free-app chart.
Muse is a personal artificial-intelligence agent designed to perform tasks for users. Meta says it can open web browsers, fill out forms and keep working in the background.
Each Muse agent runs on its own virtual machine. In plain English, that means a cloud-based version of a personal computer handles the agent’s work.
The chart position gives Meta an early market win. But Muse’s ability to use personal information also puts security and privacy at the center of the product’s appeal.
Meta says users can connect Muse to selected apps and give it jobs that require several steps. The company offered a recipe saved on Instagram as one example.
Muse can use that saved recipe to build a grocery list and carry out added planning tasks, Meta said. That moves the product beyond a chatbot that merely answers questions.
The agent’s background operation may be its biggest practical draw. A user can assign a task and let Muse continue working without keeping the app open.
Still, the source did not provide a total download count. Muse’s No. 1 ranking establishes its place on Apple’s free-app chart, but it does not reveal how many people installed it.
Meta said it postponed Muse in April to make the agent more secure. The delay matters because the product can act through connected apps and handle information supplied by its users.
Vishal Shah, Meta’s vice president of AI products, said the added work allowed Muse to “cross the threshold” for minimum standards covering safety, security, privacy and model performance.
That is Meta’s standard, not the final word from consumers. A top chart rank shows strong interest, while lasting trust will depend on how the agent handles real tasks and private data.
Meta also plans a feature called Muse Confidential VM. The company says it will keep user data and communications encrypted in a form controlled only by the user.
The feature was slated to arrive later in the year, though no absolute launch date was provided. That leaves a key privacy safeguard on Meta’s product roadmap rather than in the current release.
Markets reward products that save people time. Companies still owe customers clear limits, strong safeguards and control over their own information.
