Biscuitville won America’s best fast-food breakfast vote for a fourth straight year, beating national giants while operating in just three Southern states.
USA Today readers placed Biscuitville first in the 2026 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. Farmer Boys finished second, followed by Del Taco, McDonald’s and Chick-fil-A.
The public chose from 20 nominees during four weeks of voting. For a regional chain with fewer than 100 restaurants, beating two of the country’s best-known fast-food names marks a clear win.
Biscuitville also took the breakfast title in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Its restaurants operate only in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
Its limited footprint makes the result even more notable. Biscuitville did not win through national reach; it won a public vote by sticking closely to the food and service that built its Southern following.
The family-owned chain has about 90 locations and makes biscuits from scratch every 15 minutes, the New York Post reported. Its menu also draws on fresh ingredients and hand-cracked eggs.
Fox News quoted Biscuitville chief marketing officer Kristie Mitchell describing the company’s kitchen in plain terms.
“We have no microwaves. There's no instant anything in our kitchens.”
That approach sets a demanding standard for a fast-food operation. Biscuitville hand-cracks its eggs and avoids partially cooked ingredients, while producing repeated batches of biscuits throughout the day.
The company also keeps a narrow schedule. Its restaurants typically open early and close by 2 p.m., keeping the operation centered on breakfast and lunch rather than chasing every possible meal period.
That focus may frustrate customers who arrive later, but it gives the chain a clear identity. Biscuitville calls itself the “Home of the Biscuit Window,” and its hours leave little doubt about the main attraction.
Biscuitville’s roots reach back to 1966, when Maurice Jennings opened bread-and-milk stores in North Carolina. He later opened Pizzaville restaurants and added biscuits to attract breakfast customers, the Daily Mail reported.
The biscuits eventually became the business. The first Biscuitville opened in Danville, Virginia, in 1975, establishing the format that would grow across three Southern states.
The primary account counted 87 restaurants when the 2026 award was announced, while the two newer supporting accounts placed the chain at about 90. Both figures show how small its reach remains beside McDonald’s and Chick-fil-A.
That regional reach also places a limit on the award’s meaning. The result reflects the readers who voted during the four-week contest, and the published accounts did not disclose vote totals for each nominee.
Still, four straight first-place finishes are difficult to dismiss as a one-time burst of attention. Biscuitville repeated its win while serving only a small part of the country and facing competitors with far broader name recognition.
Size can buy reach, but it cannot guarantee loyalty. Businesses that know their customers, guard their standards and deliver the same product each morning can still beat the biggest names.
